Mohammad Khodashenas

Letters

Maria Behnam-Bakhtiar is pleased to present ‘Letters’ an exhibition of select works by the pioneer Iranian pop artist Mohammad Khodashenas (MAMI), marking the artist’s first solo exhibition in the Principality of Monaco, on view from January 23 through March 31, 2023.

Abundant in colour and impact, the works exhibited encompass an array of cultural and street references ranging from childish handwritings, religious symbols, coffee house painting, store layouts, local bazar counters, Persian calligraphy, pictures of religious and political characters, and slogan writings from the walls of cities, making this exhibition the artist’s visual testament to the essence of Iran’s contemporary everyday culture and mood.

Born 1975 in Lahijan, Iran, Mohammad Khodashenas was trained in graphic design, culminating in an undergraduate degree from the Univestity of Tehran, an educational background that became evident in his work as an artist. Khodashenas has exhibited internationally next to the most prominent pop and street artists such as Mr. Brainwash, Seen, Black Le Rat, Paul Alexis amongst others. In Iran, aside from an array of renowned local galleries, Khodashenas has exhibited at a workshop of the famous film maker Abbas Kiarostami.
